Bitumen Testing Lab in Bengaluru

Comprehensive bitumen and bituminous mix testing per IS 73, IRC SP-112, IS 2386 and MoRTH standards at our lab on Bagalur Main Road, Yelahanka.

Reliable Bitumen Testing for Road & Highway Projects

Bitumen quality is critical for the longevity and performance of road pavements, highways, and airport runways. V2 Civil Diagnostics tests bitumen and bituminous mix samples for penetration, softening point, ductility, flash point, density, bitumen content, sieve analysis, and mix design. Our testing follows IS 73, IRC SP-112, IS 2386, and MoRTH specifications. Whether you are a road contractor verifying incoming bitumen batches or a highway authority checking mix quality, our detailed reports ensure compliance and durability.

How Our Bitumen Testing Process Works

Sample Intake

Deliver your bitumen or bituminous mix sample to our Yelahanka lab or arrange for collection from your site.

Labeling & Documentation

Each sample is logged, labeled, and stored under controlled conditions prior to testing.

Mechanical Testing

Penetration, softening point, ductility, flash point, and density tests are conducted per IS 73 specifications.

Mix Analysis

Bitumen content extraction, sieve analysis, and mix design per IRC SP-112 and MoRTH specifications for bituminous mixes.

Data Verification

Results are cross-checked against IS standards and lab QA protocols before report generation.

NABL Accredited Report

Final test report includes all test data, signed by approved authorized signatory. Accepted by all agencies.

Bitumen Testing FAQs

The penetration test measures the consistency of bitumen by determining the depth (in 0.1 mm) to which a standard needle penetrates a bitumen sample under specified conditions of load, time, and temperature (IS 73). It helps classify bitumen grades like 60/70 and 80/100.

The softening point indicates the temperature at which bitumen softens and begins to flow. Higher softening points are preferred in hot climates to prevent pavement rutting and deformation under traffic loads.

Bitumen content extraction determines the percentage of bitumen in a bituminous mix (DBM, BM, SDBC, BC). This is essential for verifying that the mix design proportions are being followed during road construction as per IRC SP-112.

For bituminous mixes like DBM (Dense Bituminous Macadam), BM, SDBC, and BC, we test bitumen content, sieve analysis of extracted aggregates, and perform mix design as per MoRTH specifications to ensure road pavement quality.

Most bitumen tests including penetration, softening point, ductility, flash point, and density can be completed within 2–3 working days. Bitumen content extraction and mix design may take 3–5 days.

Equipment & Standards Compliance

Our bitumen testing lab is equipped with penetrometers, ring and ball apparatus, ductility machines, Cleveland open cup apparatus, and centrifuge extractors — calibrated and maintained per IS standards. All equipment undergoes regular calibration checks to ensure measurement accuracy.
